Get noticed: Get a Sivatar

My friend at MyStarbucks blog alerted me today to a new way to get your blog noticed. It's called Sivatar, and here is how it works. If you have a site avatar then you are half way to sharing your site with the rest of the blogging universe. Sivatar is in Beta right now, but don't let that deter you, head on over to their site and share your avatar and get yourself noticed. I just signed up for the site a few moments ago, and I see there are already hundreds of other blogger avatars ahead of me. Are you new to blogging and not quite sure what an avatar is? For my site, I use a little duck with my alter-ego name beneath it like this    webduck avatar  Kind of cute, eh? So, what is a Sivatar then? While your avatar promotes you to the world, your Sivatar promotes your site. For Sivatar, you create a 50 X 50 image and upload it, add a little bit of information about your blog and that's it. They check to see that you are abiding by their standards for submission., and if you are, then you are good to go. Who knows, it could be the next big thing! Besides, it's free and you can always use a little more exposure for your blog, right?

Wordless Wed – November sky

November sky 2007

I walked out on our back deck tonight (27 Nov 2007) and took this photo just using my Fuji digital camera and the flash. For whatever reason, this is how it turned out. Kind of "other worldly" in a way. The tree in the middle is a Tamarack, one to the left is our red maple, and the Douglas firs to the right are quite a ways away (they are about 70 feet tall).

Why is my screen shaking?

Most days, there is no reason to watch comedy on TV. All I have to do is be myself. Just today, I put a new plugin extension (is that redundant?) in Firefox that I thought would be pretty helpful since we live in an area where we have earthquakes. It's called eQuakeAlert!! and it resides down at the bottom of the screen. What I didn't know about it was that it has some 'other' features. Not only does it show me the latest quake information such as location, magnitude and does it every five minutes when there are quakes, but it also has a "shake" feature that I wasn't aware of. This is where the humor comes in... 1964 quake in Alaska As I was looking at a web page a couple hours ago, and trying to scroll down the page, all of a sudden the page was like vibrating before my eyes. I thought I was just a crappy scroller, but it was the plugin telling me there was an earthquake just posted to the USGS feed! Not only that, but the quake was pretty close....like about 20 miles away from me, over on the Olympic Peninsula :!: I don't know why I didn't feel it in real time, but for once, I didn't. The funny part of this was too, that just this evening as we were discussing the day's events, I said to my husband that there had been quite a few quakes today, and named the locations. Then, I told him, "Don't be surprised if we don't have one here!". Boy, am I good, or what? What can I say? I pick up on these things.
