Ancestry Members Get It For Half Price

DNA

Have you always wanted to get your DNA checked? I have! With prices the way they are these days though, I just couldn't justify the amount some sites were asking. But then, I got an email from Ancestry that said they're offering DNA testing at half the price for their members. I just couldn't pass that up. I really want to know where my dad's side of the family originated, so I sent for the test and my brother got it today. I just ordered it last weekend, so that was pretty quick shipping, don't you think?

Ancestry.com DNA testing

As soon as he swabs the inside of his cheek and gets the test sent back, we should get the results in a few weeks. Hey, this isn't CSI, I know it takes a while for the analysis. If I get flush with some more extra cash I might get my mother's side of the family DNA done too. I have until September 30th. My birthday is September 2nd, so maybe the birthday fairy will be nice to me... ;)

I ordered the Advanced Paternal Lineage Test. Which test would you order?

Basic test types:

Paternal Lineage Test*

New to DNA testing? The Paternal Lineage Test can help you connect with living relatives and possibly add them to your family tree.

Maternal Lineage Test

Learn about your mother’s ancient ancestors as they migrated across the world thousands of years ago. The maternal test can also help you disprove family links.

iPentimento BFF Award Goes To…

In case you don't know what BFF means, it stands for Blogging Friends Forever. I usually don't participate in these link things, but La at Coastal Commentaries was nice enough to list me as one of her favorite blogs. What a very nice surprise! And now, to pass it along to 5 more people that I hope will be my blogging friends forever too. Cuz them's the rules folks! ;)

The complete rules are:

1. Only 5 people are allowed to receive this award
2. 4 of them followers of your blog.
3. One has to be new to your blog and live in another part of the world.
4. You must link back to who ever gave you the award.

This is not going to be easy, but here goes! I now bestow the BFF Award on...

Sarahanne hails from Virginia, is new to my blog, and I so enjoy her Victorian Times blog. She has the skill to actually make Dickens and Civil War era dresses.

The man behind the curtain at Turnip of Power has been an ever-faithful Entrecard dropper and inspiration to me since I began learning what social networking was all about. I'm sure he gets all his wisdom from eating turnips. I also believe in evil woobies.

It is unsure I am (how's that for Yoda-speak?) whether Daisy the Curly Cat is a follower of iPentimento, but she is one of my favorite kitty girls, and I think she and her Mommy deserve this award too.

My new friend Miriam at AnceStories drops by here quite often, and we are both going to have to join Genealogists Anonymous if we get any deeper into Facebook groups like Genea-Bloggers. ;)

My last nominee, but not least, is Mark Matt Henrickson (he will get the joke!) at Blog about your Blog. I have learned so much from him about blogging. He always has sound advice, and recently, a warning about the Exoclick scam that you should heed before they hack your PayPal account too!

Genealogy Branches Out On Facebook

It's always been the hardest part of doing genealogy: making connections.  Just recently I've found another new tool to enable me to find those connections while learning and networking along the way. That tool is Facebook groups. I try to do most of my networking for free, and Facebook is the application that I find to be the most user friendly, as well as free.

Currently, I'm meeting lots of fellow genealogists through Facebook groups. Here are some links to some of the groups I have joined:

If any of these groups sound interesting, please join us. Or, start a group of your own!
