iPentimento – COI 10th Edition – Costume

We’re celebrating the 10th Edition of the Carnival of Images with the word prompt: Costume
John and Mary (DeSpain) Whitmore center-front
Children behind L-R: Cordelia, John, Mariah, Mary and William
This photo was most likely taken before 1904 because the youngest boy, William, died in January of that year. I have chosen this photo for the Carnival because of the elaborate dresses the ladies are wearing.

Can you imagine making these dresses? Not only yards and yards of fabric, but sewing much of it by hand! No wonder the sewing machine was such a revolutionary invention to women of this era. I make ‘period’ costumes and it’s difficult enough to make something like this using today’s modern machines.
Great photo!
Wow this one is really cool pics I must say and is suiting for your topic as well. Just look at the dress of that time and of now. Huge difference.
