When Johnny Comes Marching Home: After The Civil War
(Click on thumbnail to see full-sized picture.)
Richard Bean’s wife didn’t want him to enlist in the Army when the Civil War broke out, but he was determined. So much so that he dyed his hair and beard with walnut stain and went to another county and joined up. His wife had told him that if he went that she would leave him…and she did. When he came home he had to build this ‘house’ in which to live. The house was located in Nashua, Iowa, and has long since been demolished.
Richard L. Bean was my husband’s Great-Great Grandfather.
